Love is in the air and on the ice this Valentine’s Day - when couples are invited to dress up as their favourite celebrity pair and take to the rink at the Life Science Centre on the most romantic day of the year in Newcastle, the region's capital of Love!

To make this an extra special Valentine’s evening, NE1 Ltd has entered into a beautiful partnership with Life Science Centre and Metro Radio to deliver a romantic night on the ice as part of its ongoing Alive after Five celebrations.

There will be a wealth of romantic prizes up for grabs for those who get into the ‘dressy-up’ spirit with 5 romantic meals for two at Electric East*, and the chance to win tickets to see a forthcoming headline act, courtesy of Skating@Life sponsor Metro Radio, at the Metro Radio Arena during the Spring.

Even better, ‘love is..’.only having to pay for one ticket, with a 2 for 1 offer on ice skating after 5.30pm and a free hot chocolate and heart-shaped cookie….and for a bit of fun, inspiration from celebrity couples can be sought with a range of masks available on the night!

Kath Howes, Operations Manager at Life Science Centre, said: “We get lots of couples coming along to the rink on dates and it’s quite a good test of a budding relationship – you’ve got the novice skating couples who have to support each other as they find their feet or if one is a more confident skater, you see the other putting their trust in them, then you always get the competitive couples who really try and out do each other!”

She added: “Our Valentine’s evening will be good fun and a chance for couples to do something a little different and who knows – it’s a Leap Year so maybe we’ll get some ladies proposing while on the ice!”

Stephen Patterson, Commercial Manager at Newcastle NE1 Ltd said: " We wanted to do something extra special on this romantic night in Newcastle so are inviting
would-be Torvill and Dean’s to come along on Valentine’s Day and recreate the steamy Bolero on ice with their chosen partner – or, alternatively, lovingly cling to one another as you make your way gingerly around the rink."

Anyone planning to skate on the night of ‘lurv’ can post song requests and messages of love to www.facebook.com/scienceatlife . Music will be provided throughout the night courtesy of Metro Radio.
